The open western side of the bowl

The West Berm follows the western sweep around the playing area, between the ground’s main landmarks. Its viewpoint changes as you move around the curve: a place nearer the square gives a broad side-on look, while one nearer an end adds an angle along the pitch.

For a Test booking, find the exact offered block on the international seating plan. The berm also carries circulation and facilities around the ground, so the area name alone does not describe the seat you are buying. International matches can use additional temporary stands; compare the actual arrangement for your Ashes day.

From this side, follow the batter’s movement forward and back and watch the nearest boundary fielders adjusting between deliveries. A lower position emphasises those boundary movements; a raised seat can make more of the field visible at once. Choose between them according to whether you enjoy the near action or the wider pattern.

Morning sun on the western boundary

The western side faces broadly southeast. During the morning session, sunlight can fall towards spectators looking across the square. As play continues after lunch, the light moves towards the southern side. Following tea, the sun travels further west, towards the side and rear of this seating.

The West Berm is an open area with little overhead shelter. A change in the direction of sunlight does not make the seat a roofed one, so bring protection for both a warm morning and a shower. Keep a hat within reach before the first ball and a waterproof you can put on without unpacking the rest of your bag.

Compare a roofed Shane Warne row if shelter is the deciding factor. It keeps you on broadly the same side of the ground, while changing the elevation and structure around the seat. Compare the two actual positions on the map before treating the stand as a direct substitute.

An outdoor day beside the boundary

The West Berm places your day among the open areas and facilities of the western bowl. It suits companions who like watching the nearest fielder between deliveries and meeting for food in the intervals. Keep the walking route clear when meeting friends; the berm serves people moving around the stadium as well as those sitting nearby.

Grass access and permission for blankets or folding chairs at the 2027 Ashes are TBC. Choose the seating product described on your ticket rather than planning a picnic spot from the name “berm”. Family or alcohol-free requirements also need a designated allocation in the Ashes booking, not an assumption about an open area.

Western landmarks for the intervals

The Shane Warne Stand and the club shop beneath it give you easy landmarks on this side of the ground. Use the entrance named on your ticket, then locate your block before joining a refreshment queue. That makes the return route easier to recognise when the concourse fills during lunch.

Major-match food and drink outlets operate along the berms. The club’s food guide identifies the event’s choices, so use the West Berm location to compare a nearby counter with a trip towards the Pavilion’s Arlott Atrium. Water fountains and accessible toilets at the Shane Warne Stand are useful facilities to locate from your particular block.

The berm provides a level route around the bowl, but some paths from that route to lower seating involve steps. Explain the specific West Berm ticket you are considering when arranging accessible viewing. The walk around the ground and the final approach into a row need to work together, especially when a companion is helping carry belongings.

Choosing the actual West Berm allocation

England face Australia on 21–25 July 2027.When the official ticket system offers a western block, note the row, elevation and whether its position is square or closer to an end before comparing the price with Shane Warne seating.

Follow the ticket timetable in the Utilita Bowl Test guide. For a group, decide whether being together on this side matters more than keeping a particular viewing angle. If offered seats in separate western blocks, locate both on the plan before committing to a day that leaves companions watching from different parts of the curve.
