The western view across the square

From the Shane Warne Stand, the pitch runs across your field of view between the Pavilion and Hilton ends. That side-on angle helps show when a batter advances, stays back or reaches for a fuller ball. It also makes the distance travelled between the wickets easy to follow during a busy passage of singles.

A seat nearer the middle of this side feels different from a block curving towards either end. Use the pitch on the booking plan to judge the angle, especially if your first choice is directly square. The stand name covers a broader choice than a single viewpoint.

Compare the opposite Colin Ingleby-Mackenzie Stand for the reverse perspective. Both offer a side-on outlook, but their exposure to the moving sun differs. If you are booking successive Ashes days, changing sides lets you see the same batters’ stance from another direction without moving to an end-on view.

Morning light and changing roof shelter

Shane Warne seats face broadly southeast. The morning session can bring sunlight towards that face, including exposed seats below the roof line. During the afternoon the sun moves towards the southern side, and after tea it travels around towards the west, beside or behind this seating.

Part of the stand has roof shelter, so ask for a seat beneath it if that is a priority. The lower exposed places still need sun protection and a waterproof. Compare the position of your row with the roof on the seat map; being in the Shane Warne Stand is not enough to establish how much of the day is sheltered.

For a long July spell, this side’s changing sun angle is a reason to consider the morning as carefully as the final session. Keep sunglasses handy before the first over and a layer for sitting still once the stand is in less direct light.

Watching the detail with friends

The side-on view suits a group who enjoy talking through footwork and field changes between overs. Seats together near the square keep everyone looking at much the same angle, making it easier to point out a change in the batter’s position or a fielder moving back.

There are hospitality rooms within the Shane Warne building, but a general stand seat has its own admission terms. Families should choose by the actual block and row offered for the Ashes; an alcohol-free allocation for this stand is TBC. For a younger spectator, weigh the benefit of a roofed row against the extra movement needed to reach it.

The West Gate side of the ground

The club shop sits beneath the Shane Warne Stand inside the West Gate. It gives friends an identifiable landmark when approaching this side. Follow the entrance printed on your international ticket; hospitality guidance naming the West Gate applies to the relevant suite or box booking.

Water fountains are at both ends of the stand, making it possible to refill without crossing to the opposite side of the bowl. Bars operate beneath the stands and around the berm, with the event’s food guide setting out the available counters. Find the fountain on your side of the stand before settling into a long session.

Accessible toilets are located at both ends of the Shane Warne Stand. The level berm links the surrounding areas, while some routes down to pitch-level seats involve stairs. For accessible viewing, book the position and companion together so the route from the gate continues all the way to the seat. A suite lift and an ordinary seating stairway serve different needs.

Choosing a Shane Warne Ashes seat

The men’s Ashes Test runs from 21–25 July 2027.Compare any offer against the official plan, keeping the pitch angle and roof position beside the displayed total rather than selecting on price band alone.

Use the main ground guide for the current sales timetable. If comparing ordinary seating with a Shane Warne Suite or executive-box package, request the outdoor watching position and the indoor inclusions separately. The attraction of this side is its view across the square; keep that view central to the choice.
