Stay for the cricket

Hotels near Edgbaston for a Test match

Choose your Birmingham base around the journey you want after stumps. Edgbaston Park Road puts you near the university, while New Street makes arriving by rail straightforward. Broad Street suits a group that wants dinner and drinks after the cricket. The stadium also has a new hotel planned for the 2027 Ashes, so there is an important distinction between the established nearby hotels and that forthcoming opening. Start with your match ticket and your preferred return journey, then compare the whole stay: breakfast, parking, cancellation terms and the nights either side of your cricket day.

Radisson RED Birmingham Edgbaston Stadium: the planned on-site hotel

As of 13 October 2026, Radisson lists this hotel as in development. Edgbaston says it is due to open in time for the July 2027 Ashes. The location will be within the stadium grounds, and Radisson advertises pitch-facing room categories. It belongs in your 2027 planning, but it is not an already-open hotel.

Radisson has published an Ashes room package for two, including breakfast, two match tickets, a picnic hamper and balcony viewing. Its Day One package requires two nights, 7–9 July. The published terms require full payment and make bookings non-refundable and non-transferable. Read the package’s stadium terms before buying, especially the viewing arrangements and check-in and check-out times. Book that offer through the official hotel page.

Booking your Edgbaston Ashes nights

The men’s Ashes Test runs from Thursday 8 to Monday 12 July 2027. If you are attending the opening day, compare arriving on Wednesday evening with travelling on Thursday morning. A room after your cricket day lets you stay through a long final session without watching the clock for a train.

For a multi-day visit, compare one continuous booking with separate nights, including any minimum stay and cancellation deadline. Confirm twin beds if two friends are sharing; a room for two adults may have one double bed. Match-ticket rain refunds and hotel cancellation terms are separate arrangements. Keep the booking conditions with your travel details.

Before choosing a room

If you need an accessible bedroom, discuss the bathroom, bed height, lift and route from the drop-off point directly with the hotel. Edgbaston Park Hotel publishes separate access information for its main building, historic houses and Peter Scott House. Choose the building that meets your needs, then plan your stadium entrance with the club.

Areas to stay

Edgbaston Park Road and the university

This is the area to consider for a stay away from the city-centre evening crowds. Edgbaston Park Hotel publishes a distance of less than two miles to the stadium, with a journey of under ten minutes by car or approximately 20 minutes by bus from Edgbaston Park Road. Those are ordinary journey estimates; leave extra time for an international match.

University station is a ten-minute walk from the hotel, according to its own travel advice. The hotel restaurant and bar give you an evening option without returning to central Birmingham. For anyone combining cricket with a university visit, this is a useful place to start comparing rooms.

New Street and the Chinese Quarter

Choose the station end of the city if you are arriving late by train or travelling on to another Test. The 45 and 47 buses serve Pershore Road, leaving a short walk to Edgbaston. For selected major fixtures, the club also operates a shuttle from Smallbrook Queensway near New Street; look at the match-specific travel information when it is published.

The Chinese Quarter gives you a choice of places to eat around your hotel. Before booking a late restaurant table, leave room for the final session, the walk out of the ground and the return journey. An 11am first ball does not make the evening finish equally predictable.

Five Ways and Broad Street

Park Regis sits on Broad Street, with restaurants and canal-side bars around neighbouring Brindleyplace. It suits a stay in which the evening matters as much as the morning trip to cricket. The club estimates a 12-minute drive from Park Regis to the ground in normal conditions. Build in extra time for the Ashes, and decide how you will get back before leaving the hotel.
