Howard Stand at Headingley: choosing a Test seat
Howard is the roofed landmark at Headingley’s southern end, with cricket seating on one side of the shared cricket and rugby building. For the women’s Ashes Test, 24–27 June 2027, start by comparing Lower and Upper. The higher view, roof position and route to the row make this a meaningful choice for a whole day.
Best for: An end-on field overview, padded seating and covered southern rows.

At a glance: Howard Stand
The pitch stretching towards Kirkstall Lane
From Howard, you look along the wicket towards the northern enclosures. The Western Terrace is to your left and the East Stand to your right, giving a clear sense of where fielders move as the captain changes the plan.
Howard Lower retains that end-on relationship while bringing the boundary closer. Choose it if seeing nearby fielders matters more than gaining maximum height. A row farther back can still improve the overall field picture, so compare the actual position within Lower instead of treating every lower seat as the same view.
Howard Upper lifts you above the southern boundary for a broad look across Headingley. It is particularly appealing if you enjoy tracking gaps, watching a fielder move between deliveries or keeping the full outfield in sight. Yorkshire warns that this height may be unsuitable for visitors with vertigo or a fear of heights; decide that before considering a particular row.

Roof cover across three sessions
Howard’s southern position produces mixed morning conditions. The roof protects covered seating, but front rows receive more light and have greater exposure at the edge. If shelter is the reason for choosing Howard, discuss the exact tier and row with Yorkshire. The stand name alone covers several different positions beneath and beyond the roofline.
After lunch, the covered southern rows are generally the shaded choice in the ground’s sun guide. Keep a hat available for a front-row seat, even if the tier above or behind it looks shaded in a photograph.
For the later session, Howard’s deeper covered seats keep the roof between you and much of the sky. Shade can also feel cooler when the temperature falls, so take a light layer. Rain blowing into exposed edges remains possible; select roof depth for the comfort you want through the last overs.
Lower, Upper or a separate suite?
Howard offers padded seating, with different levels sharing the same end of the field. Choose the level together, especially if some spectators prefer a lower outlook and others enjoy the height upstairs.
The Howard Suite sits between the public seating levels and is a separately booked premium experience. If your group wants a room as a base between sessions, compare its package with ordinary Howard seats before committing. A public Upper or Lower ticket is a choice of seat, so any expectation of dining or suite entry should come from the offer you buy.

Concourse, lifts and the final steps
The lower Howard concourse provides a sheltered place for refreshments. Upstairs, a bar sits behind the elevated seating. Find the return entrance for your level before lunch; the shared building has several routes, and keeping your own tier in mind makes a short interval easier to manage.
A lift serves Howard’s upper concourse, while ordinary seating rows still involve steps. If you need a level route all the way to the viewing position, arrange designated seating with Yorkshire. Explain whether you are choosing the upper outlook or pitchside location, since getting into the building and reaching the final seat are separate parts of the journey.
The Howard concourse houses Headingley’s Changing Places facility, with a hoist, changing bench and shower. Bring your own sling if required and arrange the access details with the club. Its location can make Howard a useful stand to discuss when those facilities are central to your day, alongside the position of companions and the route back to the cricket.
The upper concourse also has standard toilets and baby-changing facilities. For families choosing Howard, compare the climbing involved with the lower seating before settling on a row. If alcohol-free seating is the priority, Yorkshire’s named alternative is Block R in North East Lower, across the ground from the Howard building.
