Book the seat and companion together

Ticketek provides an accessibility filter and an online request form for MCG events. Use these to select a wheelchair space, companion place or extra-amenities seat. The Australian accessibility hotline is 1300 665 915; visitors booking from Britain can use the online form. Include the Test, day and all relevant seating needs in the same request.

A wheelchair space expects you to remain in your own wheelchair. Extra-amenities seats have additional room and an aisle position, but can involve up to four steps. Explain whether you can transfer or use steps so the booking team can match the seat to you. Ask for the block, level and lift route in the written confirmation.

The MCG accepts the Victorian Companion Card: a valid holder buying a full-price ticket can redeem one complimentary companion ticket through Ticketek. The holder attends with the companion and must be able to show the card. UK visitors should ask Ticketek about their own evidence and companion arrangements before buying; a British disability document is not the Victorian card.

Choose a route through the precinct

Use the PTV or Transport Victoria journey planner for the actual match date and your access requirements. Jolimont and Richmond serve different sides of the MCG, while the longer Flinders Street approach crosses the river-side precinct. Include the route beyond the station in your plan: the park and stadium concourse add distance after leaving the train.

The free G-Train mobility shuttle has pickup points at Richmond, Jolimont and Yarra Park car park. Some vehicles have wheelchair ramps, and advance booking is unnecessary. Find the designated pickup on the MCG map and allow waiting time. Speak to an attendant about the best drop-off for your ticketed gate and the return pickup after play.

Arrange parking or a drop-off

Yarra Park parking for Australian Disability Parking permit holders is subject to capacity and can be booked through Ticketek. The parking is on grass, with possible grass, sand or garden-bed crossings before reaching an asphalt path. A space can be up to 300 metres from the concourse. Discuss that surface and distance if your chair or walking aid needs a firm approach.

The venue identifies an accessible taxi pickup and drop-off area at the bus turning circle on Jolimont Terrace. Give your driver the agreed location and allow for event road controls. Overseas visitors needing a permit-based space should confirm eligibility with the operator before relying on a UK parking badge. Keep the transport reply alongside the seat confirmation.

Match the stand to the facilities

Accessible seating is offered on Levels 1 and 2 of the Shane Warne Stand, and Levels 1, 2 and 4 in the Ponsford and Olympic stands. The MCC Reserve has accessible positions on all four of its levels, but the member or authorised-guest admission requirement still applies. Public accessible booking does not create access to the Reserve.

The Changing Places facility is on Level 1 inside Gate 3, near the MCG Shop. It has an adult-sized changing table and ceiling-track hoist. An MLAK key opens the room on event days; staff can help if you do not have one. Discuss equipment needs before travelling, and use the accessibility map to plan the lift and toilet routes from your actual bay.

Plan a quieter break

The MCG lists sensory spaces behind M51 inside Gate 3 and behind M20 on Level B1 in the Shane Warne Stand. They operate during events, with staff support and lift or ramp access. Bookings are unnecessary, although capacity limits apply. The cricket visual story on the venue’s sensory page can help you prepare for arrival and the noise of the crowd.

Choose which space suits your seat and walk the route before the opening session. Children need an accompanying adult in the sensory space. Tell your companion how you would like to signal a break, and keep the seat and gate details on paper if that is easier than handling a phone in a busy concourse.

Manage the heat and journey home

December brings a long outdoor day, and March’s anniversary Test continues into the evening. Discuss any essential shade requirement when selecting the row, then keep water, sun protection and a light layer within reach. The roof drip line helps identify overhead shelter; the angle of sunlight changes as play continues. Find a refill point and a comfortable place for a break before settling in.

After play, the G-Train can pause while the heaviest pedestrian crowd clears. Its published service ends no later than an hour after the event, so agree your pickup before leaving the stand. If a taxi or another person is collecting you, share the exact location and allow enough time to reach it without rushing through the crowd.
